When you enter Path of Exile 2 Early Access, you will find that there are many items for you to search and use, from a dozen different currencies to hundreds of unique gear, all of which require you to understand their specific effectiveness in order to use them reasonably in your build.

But in fact, understanding and remembering every item in POE 2 is not a simple task, especially for those novice exiles who enter the world of Wraeclast for the first time. Soul Cores are the most typical example.

How To Maximize The Effectiveness Of Soul Cores After You Get Them In Path Of Exile 2 Early Access?

Since Soul Cores usually appear in the later stages of the campaign, you may not be able to learn more about this item and the guide to farming these Soul Cores in regular exploration. But fortunately, this guide will introduce you to the specific effectiveness of Soul Cores and the specific methods to obtain them in large quantities, which will help you better explore POE 2.

About Soul Cores

Soul Cores are actually a special rune in POE 2. Their usage is almost exactly the same as that of ordinary gear. They are placed in empty gear slots, which will provide some fixed attribute gains for certain items. Of course, it can also be inserted into rune slots, depending on the number of slots provided by your build.

The advice I can give you here is to try to place Soul Cores in rune slots, because for builds that will go through the late campaign, gear that provides solid defense capabilities and gear with strong damage capabilities will be upgraded first, such as spending some POE 2 Exalted Orbs to increase their rarity and affixes, which is likely to result in insufficient gear slots.

Types

There are currently 15 types of Soul Cores in the game, and they all provide different gains to your weapon effects and armor effects. The following is the specific utility of each Soul Core.

  • Soul Core of Tacati: It let enemies 15% chance to inflict poison on hit and increase Chaos Resistance 7%.
  • Soul Core of Jiquani: It recovers 2% of life on kill, and increases maximum life by 2%.
  • Soul Core of Zalatl: It recovers 2% of mana on kill, and increases maximum mana by 2%.
  • Soul Core of Citaqualotl: It increases elemental damage dealt by attacks by 30%, and all elemental resistances are increased by 5%.
  • Soul Core of Azcapa: It let Spirit increase 15, and increase the rarity of items found by 10%.
  • Soul Core of Quipolatl: It let your attack speed increased by 5%, and reduces the Slowing Potency of debuffs applied to you by 10%.
  • Soul Core of Opiloti: There is a 15% chance of causing bleeding on hit, and gain 10% more Charm Charges.
  • Soul Core of Tzamoto: Your Freeze Buildup increased by 20%, and increases maximum cold resistance by 1%.
  • Soul Core of Puhuarte: It increases the chance of ignition by 30%, and increases maximum fire resistance by 1%.
  • Soul Core of Xopec: It can increase chance of shocking by 30%, and increases maximum lightning resistance by 1%.
  • Soul Core of Topotante: Your attacks with this weapon penetrate 15% elemental resistance, and Elemental Ailment Threshold increased by 15%.
  • Soul Core of Ticaba: It increases critical damage bonus by 12%, and critical damage bonuses for attacks against you are reduced by 10%.
  • Soul Core of Cholotl: It can convert 20% of your requirements into Dexterity.
  • Soul Core of Atmohua: It can convert 20% of your requirements into Strength.
  • Soul Core of Zantipi: It can convert 20% of your requirements into Intelligence.

It’s important to note that while Soul Cores are harder to obtain than regular Runes, this doesn’t mean they are rarer or provide more buffs, they just provide more options for adding to gear.

How To Farm Soul Cores?

Although Soul Cores are a type of Rune in POE 2, they do not drop from normal monsters in the game like regular Runes do. You can only obtain this special rune through Trial of Chaos, Currency Exchange, or Trade.

POE 2 Trial of Chaos

As you explore this Trial of Chaos, you will have a chance to obtain Soul Cores from each floor you complete. Note that you are guaranteed to get at least one Soul Core per run, regardless of the level of the Inscribed Ultimatum you used to unlock these Trial Rooms.

But make sure you do not fail this Trial run, otherwise all your previous rewards, including experience points, POE 2 Currency, and Soul Cores, will be lost. If you want to avoid this kind of grinding, you can also trade Soul Cores with Alva in your Hideout, but the exact price of each Soul Core is constantly changing.

The last method is to trade with other players. However, based on the current game community and social platforms, the possibility of trading this item is very small. But it does not mean that it does not exist. You can try your luck.

The above are the types of Soul Cores in POE 2 and the specific farming methods. Once again, Soul Cores are just runes with special abilities and are not worth your time and effort to farm, because you can collect a lot of Soul Cores in regular exploration and trials. I hope they can play a significant role in your build, and I wish you a happy game!
