How To Use Vaal Orb In Path Of Exile 2?

The developers of Path of Exile 2 seem to be particularly keen on “randomness”. Equipment drops randomly and the effects of Currency on equipped items are randomly modified. Even some equipment will randomly apply effects to you, such as Ventor’s Gamble Gold Ring. This ring will randomly assign you buffs or even debuffs.

The creators are particularly keen on turning players into gamblers. In POE 2 currency, Chaos Orb, Orb of Chance, and Vaal Orb all have the effect of randomly modifying items. Among them, Vaal Orb is the most unpredictable because it has several effects. Do you know how to use it?

Vaal Orb can be used on different items, such as your equipment, skill gems, Spirit gems and even Waystone. There are some small differences, so I will introduce them separately.

Using Vaal Orb On Items

Using Vaal Orb on an item has 4 results:

• 25%: The item remains the same and nothing happens.
• 25%: Adds a Corruption Affix to the item.
• 25%: Modifies an existing affix.
• 25%: Adds an additional slot to the item.

Although Vaal Orbs have several effects, only one will be active at a time, and there will be no combined effects.

Item Remains The Same

It is not accurate to say that the item remains the same, and it has changed a bit, actually. Although its affixes and slots remain the same, you will find that it has a “Corruption” in its description. This means that you can no longer modify this item with any other POE 2 currency.

Corruption Affix

This is usually a positive effect. Vaal Orbs will add an additional “Corruption Affix” to your equipment. This Corruption Affix comes from the list of Corruption modifiers. Even if your item already has a maximum number of affixes, it will still add an affix to it. This is the only way to get Jewels with 5 modifiers.

Rerolls Affix

This function sounds similar to POE 2 Chaos Orb and Divine Orb, but there are some differences. Vaal Orb can work on magic items, but Chaos Orb cannot work on magic items. Secondly, Vaal Orb can modify the value of item affixes, and even break the upper or lower limit of the value, but Divine Orb cannot break the limit of the item value.

Adds A Slot

Using Vaal Orbs is the only way to get multiple slots for your weapons and armor. Vaal Orb can break the upper limit of item slots. Even the body armor Morior Invictus Grand Regalia, which has a maximum of 4 slots, can get a fifth slot under the influence of Vaal Orb.

However, this effect of Vaal Orbs can only work on items with slots. If it is an item without slots such as amulets, rings, belts, flasks and rings, Vaal Orbs cannot make sockets for them.

Using Vaal Orbs On Skill Gems Or Spirit Gems

Vaal Orbs can have an effect on both Spirit Gems and Skill Gems.

• 12.5%: Gem level up.
• 12.5%: Gem level down.
• 12.5%: Gain a socket.
• 12.5%: Lose a socket.
• 25%: Quality loss or increase by 2-10%.
• 25%: No change.

Using Vaal Orbs on Spirit Gems and Skill Gems can make them gain 4 or even 5 sockets, or make a level 20 skill gem go to level 21. The chance of gaining an extra socket is only 12.5%, which is relatively low. Unless you have several multi-socket skill gems, it is not recommended to gamble with Vaal Orb.

In addition, if Vaal Orbs are corrupted, Spirit Gems and Skill Gems can still be upgraded, but their quality can no longer be increased.

Using Vaal Orbs On Waystone (Map)

Waystones are usually very suitable for using Vaal Orb. Once your character is strong enough to defeat Corruption map, you should use Vaal Orb on Waystones frequently.

• 25%: No change (Waystone becomes Corrupted).
• 25%: Waystone may go up or down 1 level. This usually changes the modifiers of Waystone.
• 12.5%: Remove all prefixes from Waystone and add a suffix for each removed prefix, breaking the 1 or 3 suffix limit.
• 12.5%: Remove all suffixes from Waystone and add a prefix for each removed suffix, breaking the 1 or 3 prefix limit.
• 25%: Add additional modifiers to Waystone, breaking the prefix and suffix limit. This method has a chance to create the best Waystone.

Vaal Orbs work very well with Waystones, because the only negative effect is that Waystone’s level is reduced by one level. Except for no change, all other effects can add a certain amount of bonus to Waystone, so the overall risk is low, and the reward is high.

Omen Of Corruption

Vaal Orbs have a 1 in 4 chance of doing nothing for each item, which is really annoying. Omen of Corruption is Omen for Vaal Orbs, which can remove the “nothing happens” effect of Vaal Orb, making you more likely to trigger other effects, but also more risky.

Vaal Orbs are a double-edged sword, which can either make your equipment break the upper limit or make your equipment worthless. Perhaps only the most crazy gamblers will happily use Vaal Orb as a necessity for crafting equipment.
