Diablo 4 Season 14 Leveling Is Faster Than Ever - But What Is the Best Gear Farming?

Two days have passed since the release of Diablo 4 Season of Death Awakening, and I've seen many players' posts in the community. A large portion of them have already reached level 70. After all, the season's mechanics make rapid leveling quite easy if used properly.

However, the question remains: after spending hours to a day reaching the level cap, what do you do with your level 1 gear? Do you have to go through the leveling process all over again to collect the base items, gold, and other materials needed for upgrading?

Don't worry, I have a more efficient gear acquisition strategy, starting with understanding the gear drop mechanism in Diablo 4 Season 14.

Diablo 4 Season 14 Leveling Is Faster Than Ever - But What Is the Best Gear Farming?

Gear Drops

The item drop mechanism in Diablo 4 Season 14 primarily depends on two key factors: effect value and item rarity.

Upon reaching level 70, the maximum item strength you can obtain from grinding is 850. This is the item drop rate on base difficulty, and it should be your primary goal: acquire 850 item strength gear on Normal difficulty. Unless your build is sufficiently powerful and optimized, you cannot overcome the gear gap to challenge higher difficulties.

This limitation is particularly pronounced after the class and build adjustments in Diablo 4 Season 14.

Once you obtain the gear, you can unlock T1 difficulty. The highest quality gear you can obtain on T1 difficulty is Ancestral, with an item strength cap increased to 900, the highest for all gear in Diablo 4. However, it's not guaranteed to drop on T1 difficulty; there's only a chance. To increase the drop rate, you need to increase the difficulty level.

Aspects

To improve your ability to challenge higher difficulties, the first step is to acquire Aspects, which can be used to further upgrade your level and build strength.

In Diablo 4 Season of Death Awakening, after level 60, Aspects' role shifts from reducing resource costs to altering skill mechanics and multiplicatively amplifying damage, greatly aiding in tackling higher-difficulty monsters.

It's recommended to choose Aspects that increase damage and defense, or specifically address the weaknesses of your build. Once you're strong enough to challenge Tier 3 monsters, the drop rate of Ancestral Items will significantly increase.

You can also loot from several specific areas.

1. Infernal Hordes

Infernal Hordes require Infernal Compasses to unlock, which can be obtained from drops in Helltide, Nightmare Dungeons, or Pit. The higher the level of Infernal Compasses, the higher the quality of rewards from chests dropped in Infernal Hordes.

Killing elite monsters in Infernal Hordes will drop Burning Ether, a consumable used to open chests in the reward room after completing the content. Especially Spoils of Greater Collection, which guarantee a unique item with Greater Affixes.

2. Seasonal Reputation Board

This is arguably the strongest mid-game bonus in Diablo 4 Season 14. Upon reaching level 60, Seasonal Reputation will directly grant you 42 Paragon Points, and the chests in the final few levels of Reputation Board will always drop a unique item with Greater Affixes.

Unique Items

According to Mythic Uniques 3.0 system in Diablo 4 Season of Death Awakening, you can upgrade Unique Items obtained through the two methods mentioned above into Mythic Uniques at Horadric Cube. Only two upgrade materials are needed:

  1. One regular Unique Item for the target slot
  2. Five Pandemonium Fragments

While you can only equip Mythic Uniques crafted, they are an invaluable asset during the early game when you can't tackle higher difficulties and lack Diablo 4 Gold.

As for the target Unique Item, you can farm it in the following areas with high drop rates:

Farming Strategy

1. Nightmare Dungeons

Nightmare Dungeons are one of the main sources of experience, Gold, and stockpiling upgradeable gear. Find Sigils with Equipment Delves; they will increase your chances of obtaining gear while farming.

2. Helltides

Helltides is one of the most efficient areas in Diablo 4 for leveling up in the early game, transitioning through the mid-game, and gathering materials and crafting gear in the late game.

Especially with the addition of a dynamic Rogue system in Season 14, you accumulate threat points by defeating monsters. The higher the threat, the stronger the monsters become until Hellborne is summoned. Defeating it yields a large amount of high-level gear, Aberrant Cinders, and materials.

3. Tree of Whispers

Completing quests in Tree of Whispers rewards you with Whisper Caches, the best way for mid-game players to accumulate initial wealth and quickly gather materials.

In Diablo 4 Season 14, completing marked quests on the map to earns Grim Favors. Once you accumulate 10 Grim Favors, you can return to Tree of Whispers to exchange them for Whisper Caches. These caches contain a large amount of Gold and basic materials; higher-level Whisper Caches even contain high-rarity Runes.

4. Challenge the Boss

Of course, this method has a higher success rate once your level and gear are largely complete. The new Lair Boss in Diablo 4 Season of Death Awakening has its own fixed loot pool; to open its chest, you must first obtain a Superior Lair Key.

While more complex and dangerous, the quality of the dropped gear is very high, making it a suitable primary way to increase your strength in the mid-to-late game.

In short, in my opinion, leveling up quickly and acquiring gear in Diablo 4 Season 14 isn't difficult at all. Just look at the current levels in the community, especially if you use this guide; the strategy will be much clearer, and reaching the top of the leaderboards will be within your grasp.
