MLB The Show 26 Feels Stuck In The Past - These Changes Could Save It
Recently, a growing number of players have reported that MLB The Show 26 is becoming less fun. While the game introduces some new mechanics and continues to benefit from its exclusive MLB license, player feedback and reviews indicate that the game stagnates, lacks development, or urgently needs significant improvement in certain aspects.
From core game balance and team depth to improvements in graphics and online stability, the player community has expressed clear and consistent expectations for future updates and iterations. This article will offer some suggestions for improvement to MLB The Show 26.

Rebalancing Core Gameplay
While the game mechanics themselves are impeccable, the performance on the field has become too predictable, lacking the nuances of real baseball. The most frequent complaint from players is the game's over-reliance on home runs, which diminishes the value of other aspects of the game.
I feel that the importance of singles, doubles, and skillful base running has decreased in MLB 26, and the outfielders' defensive range is too large, making the field feel artificially smaller.
Meanwhile, Big Zone Hitting mechanic introduced in the game oversimplifies the game, replacing precise timing and placement control with more frequent but less rewarding hits.
Therefore, I believe a complete overhaul of hit physics and outfield defense is necessary. I hope the developers will lower the success rate of home runs - especially when the swing timing is poor - and correspondingly increase the success rates of power hits, line drives, and precise soft hits.
This would naturally restore the value of skillful and speed-based hitters, making team building more strategic and making your MLB stubs more worthwhile.
On defense, many players have suggested slightly reducing the speed or acceleration of outfielders to make shallow and soft fly balls more challenging, thus encouraging players to adopt more diverse offensive strategies.
Furthermore, Big Zone Hitting mechanic needs a rework, adjusting its effectiveness based on the hitter's individual attributes (such as vision and hitting ability). This would ensure that only elite hitters benefit significantly, while players with lower attributes would have to rely more on precise timing and hitting discipline.
A Deep-Dive into Franchise Mode
Franchise Mode is the mode players most want updated, with many hoping it will go beyond simple roster management and offer a truly immersive experience. Specific updates include:
Expanded Trading System
The current trading system is considered too restrictive, and players want to see more of the real-world complexity. For example, the addition of three-team trades and player roster changes. Additionally, draft pick trading is a highly requested feature for MLB The Show 26.
Enhanced Realism and Depth
A major player demand is the ability to manage a more detailed minor league system, including precise roster restrictions and an expanded A-League roster to reflect the complexity of real MLB teams.
Dynamic World
Many players feel that Franchise Mode world lacks dynamism. I believe MLB 26 could dynamically adjust attendance based on promotions, set merchandise prices, and introduce new presentations for major events like Opening Day and World Series, including the championship ring presentation ceremony.

Improving Diamond Dynasty (DD)
Despite the immense popularity of Diamond Dynasty mode, it still suffers from numerous issues affecting the gameplay experience. For example, the user interface is unintuitive and disorganized, making even basic operations like browsing menus, managing rosters, and completing collections extremely cumbersome.
I believe MLB 26 needs a complete redesign of Diamond Dynasty interface, prioritizing speed, clarity, and ease of navigation. Simultaneously, the roster building interface should more clearly display player chemistry, positional flexibility, and captain bonuses, allowing players to make informed decisions without constantly switching tabs.
Ideally, adding a quick sell option for duplicate players and batch processing functionality would significantly save time and reduce fatigue from menu navigation.
Furthermore, many players have reported that the mode is becoming increasingly tedious, investing significant time for minimal MLB 26 stubs, and the poor program structure often forces players into repetitive and monotonous tasks rather than encouraging diverse and creative team building.
This issue may require a major overhaul; MLB 26 could consider implementing a more flexible parallel progression system. In this system, players can simultaneously gain experience points in multiple game modes (such as Conquest, Battle Royale, and Ranked Seasons) and choose their reward path based on their preferences.
This will reduce the feeling of being forced into specific modes and provide a more natural and enjoyable progression experience.
Revitalizing Road to the Show
While the addition of College World Series was a welcome surprise, it typically only features a few games - rather than a complete path that truly shapes a player's career. I believe it's a superficial addition lacking depth.
College World Series should be expanded into a full, multi-season storyline, allowing players to make crucial decisions that impact draft picks and long-term development.
Furthermore, RTTS mode's story itself needs a fundamental overhaul. Currently, it offers little beyond repetitive post-game interviews and monotonous teammate interactions.
I believe a branching narrative system should be established, allowing player performance, locker room atmosphere, and off-court decisions - such as contract negotiations and trade requests - to have a tangible impact.
Also, teammates should have distinct personalities, and their relationships should dynamically change based on the player's actions, such as clashing with veterans or forming a duo, with these relationships generating statistical synergies over time.
These are my suggestions for MLB The Show 26. I hope the developers can improve upon these in future updates, and if not, I hope they will be implemented in MLB 27. Another very important point is the growing demand from players for a PC version; I hope the developers will prioritize this.
